Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

Title: Ten Tiny Breaths
Author: K.A. Tucker
Genre: Romance/Non-Fiction

"Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.

But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness." (Source: GoodReads.com)

My opinion:

I probably say this for every (good) book I read but OMG I'm so happy I found this one - by mistake (again). Ten Tiny Breaths is one of those books that will get you hooked immediately and never let you go. Kacey is a shattered (too young  to live this) young woman. After a huge tragedy, her life went from normal teenager to robot-no feelings type of thing. The only way she can start over is for her to run away with her little sister. This is how to book starts and as you read you find out more about Kacey's past. As the synopsis says it already, Kacey meets gorgeous Trent who changes her life in better until one night where everything comes crumbling down once more. I will not give you too many details because I try and stay as spoiler free as I can be. BUT i can tell you this. Trent is one hot god (even though sometimes he scared me a little bit) They easily fall in love and you can see old Kacey coming up to the surface.

The characters are very well described and I really enjoyed reading about them and their lives. I found they were the non-traditional "popular" children now spoiled rich and the author gives us the perfect idea of how some people struggle with day to day life. In my opinion is good to see this side of the story too.

Ten Tiny Breaths is a quite short read (finished it in a couple of hours) but it has such an amazing roller coster that will make you laugh and cry every single second of the time. I'm happy to say that Kacey and Trent's stories really touched me (even though I know they are fictional characters) but their journey is very well inspired from real life. This is what made the book even more emotional for me. It's a fairytale about forgiveness and redemption.

I gave this book a 5/5 on GoodReads just because it moved me. I highly suggest it to everyone who loves romance and non-fiction and is willing to shed a tear at the end.

One of the many favourite quotes:

“Just breathe,” my mom would say. “Ten tiny breaths … Seize them. Feel them. Love them.”
"I never understood. What the hell does a tiny breath do? Why not a deep breath? Why ten? Why not three or five or twenty”

Enjoy!
